Happy 53rd Independance Day from HANYUT's crew!

Lets change our mind and view in term of film industry so we can enter a new world, at same level with Hollywood and others. This is also a war, struggle to make Malaysian film industry better.

'We shall defend our island, what ever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing  grounds, we shall fight in the field and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender' Winston Churchill.

One Malaysia; generate transformation.

Azam Raslan the EPK editor of HANYUT seen here relaxing in Almayer's house, one of the HANYUT's film set on location in Kuala Lipis.

Since HANYUT's production ended in July, we are thinking of ways to preserve and maintain the set, especially the very well built Almayer's house.  Some suggested we turn the set into tourism product, some suggested we hand it over to local art activist so that they could use it as a place where they can organise performing arts activities.

If you have a solid and better suggestion or ideas do not hesitate to contact us and explain to us your idea in details, so that these sets would not go to waste!

Send your ideas to deansham@tanahlicin.com.  Who knows you may get a ticket or two to watch the premier with HANYUTs stars next year for your brilliant ideas!

Assalamualaikum and a very good morning. izinkan saya berucap dalam bahasa Inggeris.

We have a week and a day more to finish our shooting for "hanyut". For the last 8 weeks we together as a family went through pain and difficulties  , fun and joy going to the shooting process by the incidents experience along the way.

But saturday last week was a very sad day for all of us when we heard the sudden and unexpected news of an accident of a friend, a production comrade, Khairul. He was a soldier.  A brave one.

Khairul had decided to leave us to start his new journey. A new  journey that is unknown to us and  that make all of us scared. He left us to finish the film we started. And by his dedication on his job, I am sure he wants us to finish what we had started with excellence.

So that just what we going to do , to finish a film who's original story was by a great polish writer Joseph Conrad. A very challenging shoot that needs strength and endurance, determination, passion and togetherness.

I am very sure, Joseph Conrad had had his shares of hardships and challenges in his many journeys. For that I like to mention, in his journal his last for voyage in the east, he was very grateful to his australian crews. Today  I am very thankful to all of you my polish friends, my Australian friends, my French friends, my Canadian friends, my British friends, my Japanese friends, my Indonesian friends and my Malaysian friends , and especialy  to Khairul in going through this project.  If this is a journey by boat, I am just the oar (kemudi). Kemudi, was the original title that Joseph Conrad wanted to give to this text before changing it to Almayer's Folly .

To paraphrase Joseph Conrad 'life is short , film is long'. Film will still be around even after we are gone. There Is a Malay proverb ' tiger will leave behind its stripes and man will leave behind his name'. The name he made from the good thing he did. We are film people so we are here to live behind a good film.

We want to be remembered by the good films we did. One of them insyaallah will be 'hanyut'. That's  one thing people cannot take away from us. With 'hanyut' it will pleased Khairul and people can never take away the fact that Khairul was with us helping to make this film.

My condolence to his immediate  family, I would like to request everybody here this morning to give him a minute of silent and from his muslim friends to give him al - fatihah.

May god bless his soul and he be placed among the choosen one . ,amin.

A minute of silence,and al-fatihah... Amin

U-Wei bin HajiSaari.

Confirmed casts of Hanyut.  A film by U-Wei Bin HajiSaari.

Added on :2010-02-12 12:37:41

"U-Wei menghargai bakat seseorang pelakon.

KUALA LUMPUR: The six-month search for the heroine for the film Hanyut (Adrift) has ended with local actress Diana Danielle landing the role of Nina in the adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s Almayer’s Folly.

Acclaimed director U-Wei Saari said that when he first saw a footage of Diana, he instinctively knew that she was the one.

“I immediately thought she fits the part,” said U-Wei, who is known for directing such films as Kaki Bakar, Jogho and Perempuan, Isteri Dan ...

Filmmakers had in August last year embarked on an online search and set up a global casting portal – www.findingnina.com where potential candidates could upload videos of themselves.

U-Wei also revealed the rest of the international cast and crew during a press conference on Tuesday.

American actor Chris Vance (of Prison Break fame) will play the role of Almayer while the local cast includes Sofia Jane as Nina’s mother, Adi Putra as Nina’s love interest, Khalid Salleh, Sabri Yunus, Hasnul Rahmat, Patrick Teoh, Bront Palarae, Ramli Hassan and Normah Damanhuri.

Two of Indonesia’s top actors, El-Manik and Alex Komang, are also involved in the production. It also boasts crew members from Poland, Australia, Canada and Indonesia.

“As a young actor, I’m very proud to be chosen for the role of Nina and work with with such a talented cast and crew. I will give my best,” said the 18-year-old Diana who was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Kuala Lumpur.

Conrad’s Almayer’s Folly, which was published in 1895, was set in the late 1800s and centres on the life of Dutch trader Kaspar Almayer in the Borneo jungle.

U-Wei sets his film at the turn of 19th century Malaya where Almayer, now an English trader, struggles to survive as he is confronted with his scheming wife, colonial authorities, political machinations and his daughter’s love for a freedom-fighting Malay prince.

“The character that I play is of mixed parentage and has a pure soul but is affected and influenced by others,” said Diana, who is also of mixed parentage. Her father is an American and her mother a Malay.

Diana, who is currently studying bioscience at Nottingham University, Semenyih, can be seen in at least three upcoming films – Magika, ...Dalam Botol and Kecoh Betul.
